The last wednesday sailing of 2016

Wednesday sailing came to its years end on this fabulously sunny December afternoon. Shame however that there was no wind - at first. Nevertheless it didn't stop Andy, Don and Roland from showing the Thames who's boss! Later on their persistence paid off and wind arrived which provided an hour... read more →

Burning down the house!

I just wanted to post some photos which conjure the lovely atmosphere at our Bonfire Night celebrations. Warming mulled wine, the Koe boys keeping the home fires burning, an epic beach blaze and a magical experience for the little ones. Could only be topped by a midsummer night party? Jane

BIG BAD BONFIRE BONANZA As usual SBSC celebrated the foiling of the gunpowder plot in style! Emma and Sally cooked up a storm, whilst John did his usual pyromania on the beach, leaving the rest of us to gawp at the free firework display courtesy of Bishops Park. Fun was had by the... read more →

Botswana bound. Sara’s safari!

Taking club holidays to new heights, Don Henderson, Trish Gutteridge and I, plus another friend from Cape Town have been on safari to Botswana.  No sign of a sailing boat, but definite signs of the most amazing amount of wildlife imaginable. A despatch from creator of your new Southbank website-slash-Indiana Jones, Max Newton, who has gone haring off on the 2016 Mongol rally. He tells me it involves taking a beaten-up car and seeing how far you get... He's made it to Kyrgyztan! Here's his latest update - a bit like... read more →

Original artwork

I thought you'd like to see this original Bob Jackson, capturing the 60th Anniversary Enterprise Tideway race, hosted by Southbank. Bob had a few postcards with him on Sunday, which were eagerly snapped up. We decided the figures, left to right, looked like John Parke, Allan Munro-Faure and - well, maybe... read more →

Leave the mark to starboard?

If you think the Thames can get windy, spare a thought for Southbank social guru Sally Pearce on board Juno X 34 in the Round the Island Race. Sally tells me winds were 27 knots - gusting 33 - most of the way round. Her crew got ...most of the way round.... read more →
